In the midst of this uncertain time, it can seem as if every business has come to a grinding halt. The unemployment numbers look grim, with claims currently hovering near 17 million as the impacts of COVID-19 continue to effect the economy at large. What you’d be surprised to know, however, is that many key industries are actively hiring new employees to help them handle the increased demand that has come with people utilizing their services more than ever.
During a press briefing by the Coronavirus Task Force on Thursday, March 26th, Vice President Mike Pence stated, “We all were awakened this morning with record unemployment numbers—not unexpected—during the time of the national crisis that we are facing. But what you may not know, is that while there were some 3 million+ new unemployment claims, Walmart announced they’re hiring 150,000 new associates through the end of May. Amazon— a few weeks back—announced they’re hiring 100,000 additional warehouse employees to meet a growing demand at Amazon for online purchases. CVS Health is going to provide bonuses to their employees working with patients, and hire 50,000 workers. And I read that Pizza Hut is planning to hire more than 30,000 permanent employees. And that’s just a short summary of a list that totals almost a half a million jobs that have been announced by businesses around America.”
Luckily, we live in a time where exploring new career opportunities can be done from the comfort (and safety) of our own home. Here are a few of the companies and industries currently hiring:
If you’re looking for a place that most likely needs an extra helping hand, check your local grocery store. Aldi, Kroger, Costco, H-E-B., and Walmart all announced they’re hiring at this time.
With a stated goal of hiring 175,000 new employees nationally, working for Amazon is also accompanied by an additional perk: a starting wage that is $2 higher than it normally is. Whole Foods is also hiring.
Dominos, Pizza Hut, and Papa John’s are all looking to hire new employees. If there isn’t one of these around you, check your favorite pizza joint as they may need a helping hand as well. For other food delivery job opportunities, check out GrubHub, DoorDash, and Instacart too.
If you’re great with kids, consider babysitting or nannying for parents who are working from home. You can also look for these opportunities online, by using Trusted, Urban Sitter, Care, and Bambino.
Some other places to check out: PepsiCo, dollar stores like Dollar General and Dollar Tree, and pharmacies and convenience stores like Walgreens, CVS and 7-11.
Also, continue looking for your dream job! This time can be a great experiment to see if working from home is for you! Are you someone who’d like to work for a company remotely? Brush up your resume, and sharpen your skills by learning online if you can. While the economy is changing by the second, there are still many opportunities to be discovered. We here at Nexxt are here to help and are wishing everyone the very best.
